The event in which my headphones fail me.

This morning, I woke up with a 5-mile run ahead of me. Pumped to be awake at 6am with the motivation to do this, I had a banana, some water and layered up. As I was setting up my running playlist, I strapped on my armband and began to stretch.

Stepping outside, the cool air actually felt pretty nice; it was around 37 degrees (according to my iPhone) with still air and the sun slowing showing its face. I got close to two miles into my run when I realized I was only hearing music from my left ear [for a brief moment I thought I had lost my hearing in my old age]. After a few moments of the unattractive sound of myself breathing, I realized what had happened: one of my headphone buds had blown. What gives?!

I wasn’t going to let this break my stride, or my motivation, so what I chose to do was blast the music louder in the ear that actually had music playing [Insert: doctor’s warning about hearing loss].

In any event, I’m now in the market for new headphones (preferably ones that will last longer than a short few months) and could use a bit of guidance. Who knows headphones out there? Help! Also, please keep in mind: I have small baby-sized ears.

Related: Sometimes when I find myself becoming tired of the same, old playlist over and over again, I like to toss in an older song that got me pumped up and energized a few years back as a little surprise and pick-me-up. Anyone else do this? What’s your oldie-but-a-goodie?
