Found this pretty helpful when considering what to eat when running so many miles each week. Aside from the lean beef (I’m a satisfied pescatarian), I’m happy to state that I do include the rest of these food options in my every day diet.
What are some other foods you count on to power through your training?

Weekend Run Recap
I took an impromptu trip out to Western Massachusetts to visit some friends whom I haven’t seen in way too long. Knowing I had my 15-mile run scheduled for Saturday, I packed my running gear along for the ride.
After settling the excitement for this overdue visit, I decided to plan my trail. The one thing I was concerned about most was not being familiar with the area, and not only having...

Because I have a 15-mile run tomorrow, and while I WILL finish every step it may not be pretty.

It’s true, there is pain during the runs. But it’s a good kind of pain, right?
Also related: I came across this awesome Pinterest board during my daily browse for running motivation and found everything I was looking for and more. If you’re: a) not on Pinterest and/or b) not following this board, I highly recommend making both of those happen ASAP. Seriously.

This has to be true, because after I’m done running the last word that comes to mind to describe my reflection is “cute”.

I came across this quote and it made me feel good, so I thought I’d share.
Directly related: My goal for today was to run 10 miles. 10! Should be easy after the 13.2 I ran last week, right? Wrong. Wrong. Wrong.
I’ve been out of the game for a week, and yes, expected a little bit of difficulty today…but there was a whole lot of difficulty going on today. A whole lot.
My 10...

I’ll be honest: I’m dying without running.
It’s only been a few days that I have had to miss my workouts, but I can not wait to get back to business.
[Dear body: please stop yelling at me and clean up your act; girlfriend’s got a marathon to train for.]

I've been told that I can't run until this...
according to my doctor. Within the past couple of days I have hit a brick wall and my body is yelling at me. What I originally thought was the flu (thank goodness I was completely wrong about that) ended up being that I’m very dehydrated and my electrolyte levels are super low. Go figure.
So now my doctor tells me I need to give my body a rest this week before I try pushing it even harder....

My Motivation
Why did I start? Running the Boston Marathon has been a goal of mine for many years now, and something I promised myself I would accomplish. Arguably more important, is my motivation: my mother.
I’m running on behalf of South Shore Hospital raising money towards their Cancer Care unit in memory of my mom who passed away a short, seven years ago from a long battle with breast and lung...

I’d like to bring attention to this image for two different reasons:
1. I remember this moment like it was yesterday; Brandi Chastain remains one of my favorite people ever - not only because she was a great soccer player with so much passion for the sport, but because this celebration gave me still gives me goosebumps.
2. After completing my 13-mile run this weekend, I felt like...

I’ve been trying to remove the word “can’t” from my vocabulary, because I truly believe that a large part of making it through life is your mentality.
Today I found myself repeating, “I will not stop” for the majority of my run. This week I’ve moved up in my distance on Wednesdays, reaching six miles this morning. I’m not going to lie, it was...

Because this morning's run wasn't easy...
I thought this was appropriate.
My Tuesday runs always seem to give me the most difficulty, and I think I’ve come up with a valid reason why: I have both Sunday and Monday off from running, so my muscles stiffen up and get tight. What I will have to do is daily stretches regardless of my workout, and get my legs ready for a run at any time. Anyone have any insight on this?
Nonetheless,...

This program is part of a partnership between my company, Hill Holliday, and a fitness center nearby, Equinox. I’ll be the first to admit that my initial attraction to this program was all about the free fitness classes. But after our first meeting, and hearing from the Equinox professionals, I’m excited to learn more about what it means to actually be healthy.
While I will be doing...

It’s been one crazy week so far already, but I’ve still made myself get up before work and go running. I will admit, however, that this morning was one of my more difficult mid-week runs thus far. While it was a 5-miler, and I’ve now surpassed my double-digit milestone, I thought that a 5 mile run at 6am would be somewhat of a breeze. Boy was I wrong.
Mostly, I blame the...

Running Recap: Double Digits (!)
This weekend was something for the books. It was a personal accomplishment of mine that I would have never thought I’d be able to do a few months ago. I was about to embark on a double-digit-length run: 10 miles.
I woke up bright and early on Saturday morning with a cup of coffee in my hand, a banana and some delicious Chobani greek yogurt. I knew what was on my plate for the day, so I...

Arguably more important than the actual running part of my training program is my diet and nutrition, and this does not come without its obstacles. I’m a vegetarian; I’m lactose-intolerant; I’m just never hungry enough to eat the recommended 2,500+ daily calories.
So, I’m trying. I’ve been looking up protein recipes, bought myself some tofu, and try to snack...

The event in which my headphones fail me.
This morning, I woke up with a 5-mile run ahead of me. Pumped to be awake at 6am with the motivation to do this, I had a banana, some water and layered up. As I was setting up my running playlist, I strapped on my armband and began to stretch.
Stepping outside, the cool air actually felt pretty nice; it was around 37 degrees (according to my iPhone) with still air and the sun slowing showing...
